“It’s not the regions but the people. A talented winemaker can craft a superb wine in any corner, soil, climate or altitude of Spain. And if we had to give that winemaker a name, it would be Joan Angel Lliberia — a man of oenology and viticulture capable of creating a great wine in a region with a modest past like D.O. Terra Alta, making us forget the rustic memories of the garnacha peluda.
Joan is one of the few who lifted the shutters of a region that had long remained in the dark, revealing to us the hidden depths of garnacha blanca and dressing up the “peluda” in a tuxedo with Lassot 2023, Edetària’s latest jewel. It’s not a Burgundy, but it shares its color, tannic architecture, and acidity — with a distinctly Mediterranean expression born from a special soil once coveted by the Romans of Tarraco. It rests for ten months in ceramic amphorae — not clay — allowing a subtle and minimal oxygen exchange that opens up a whole array of nuances in the wine.
It has received 96 points in the Peñín Guide, alongside renowned names such as Cune’s Imperial Gran Reserva, Artadi El Carretil, or Marqués de Riscal 150 Aniversario. A red wine that awakens even our sleepiest taste buds — elegant, with caressing tannins and that bright cherry hue so fashionable among today’s reds. Like all wines meant to be shared, Lassot can also be enjoyed alone, in silence, adding to the pleasure of reading an immersive novel. Only 1,300 bottles are available, priced at €60 each. The real question isn’t the price — it’s finding the right, transcendent moment to drink it.”
This is how José Peñín defines our Lassot 2023, perfectly expressing what we have always sought to achieve with this wine.
Thank you very much, José!
